Looks like Alexa for PC can't make video calls. I could remote in to answer the call.Īnyone have experience using the Alexa app on a PC or phone to make video calls?Īnyone use the Alexa via Skype option? (Not critical, but I think it would be easier to ask calling folks to load and run skype rather than alexa.)

New Thought - If the software is running on a device that can have remote mgmt, auto-answer may not be necessary. That's why the per caller granularity of Alexa's auto-answer was so appealing.Īnyone know if an Echo Show can be managed remotely? Does it need to be managed, remotely or otherwise? I could see potential privacy issues (auto answer video means on-demand remote viewing of the inside of the room) Has anyone run the Alexa app on a laptop to make/receive video calls? Using Skype? I'm starting to give more consideration to using a laptop for the resident, if possible, as that might give max flexibility. (For example, ability to load TeamViewer.) Can an Echo Show be managed remotely? If the device has a way to accept remote management, that would be a big plus. Wrt devices for the resident, I initially thought Echo Show (or Nest Hub Max before eliminating Duo), since that should have easiest interface, but a tablet might be fine. Skype's platform ubiquity (for persons calling in) is a big plus. Can anyone verify/dispute that? How about using the Alexa PC app? I'm also reading that I can enable alexa devices to use skype. It's my impression that I can make a video call to an Echo Show using the Alexa app on an iOS/android phone. Skype has auto-answer, but not caller defined.

I've read that Alexa can fine-tune the setting for auto-answer based on person calling. Google Duo doesn't have auto-answer, (probably? - see above) eliminating that candidate.

maybe not having auto answer would be ok? volume could be turned up much more than you can with a phone, and could even add a speaker for added volume, so. Auto-answer is needed because resident is partially deaf and often wouldn't hear ringing. What else should be considered? (I don't think strict meeting software, e.g. If the resident could so with voice commands, that would be nice, else it needs to have a relatively simple interface. The resident may use to make calls to a limited number of people. Most, if not all of calling will be initiated by people calling the resident (on various devices?). The system needs to have an auto-answer feature at the resident's end. I need a system that allows for easy video calling (via WiFi, I presume, but LTE could work.) to a resident in an assisted living facility. X has simple user interface (limited calling capability needs) - voice activated a plusĪccessible to callers on different platforms (iOS, Android, PC or browser a plus) If possible, use the original cable that came with your device.Video calling system that allows auto-answer at endpoint X Android Auto requires a high quality USB cable that is capable of supporting data transfers. While most USB cables look similar, there can be huge differences in terms of their quality and charging speeds.Check if Android Auto is displayed on the display.
